OUR STORY

The concept for the Able Table came about when Director Caríosa Sullivan's mother, Esther, who has been a special needs assistant and Art Therapist for over 15 years, went looking for a table that would be inclusive of everyone in her classroom, because the majority of her students are in large motorised wheelchairs they were unable to sit together as a group during mealtimes and activities.

After searching Online for a wheelchair accessible group table she soon realised that there was nothing suitable on the market, so Esther asked her partner and now Director, Martin Finucane to make her one. After a months of working on a design, we had our first Able Table.

Seating up to 4 wheelchair users and 4 care staff or peers, the design of the table made life not only easier for the service users but also their carers. Suddenly her whole class could interact together as part of a group. From an operational standpoint the table is designed to greatly ease the work involved in caring  by allowing ease of access and comfort.

The Able Table is not only empowering to the user it is also inclusion in it’s most basic form.
